Douglas Delabie gets top marks for Grammar

Tuesday 9th February 2010

Founded in the 13th Century, Lancaster Royal Grammar School, Lancashire is one of the oldest maintained “ and one of the top state schools - in the country.

As part of a modernisation programme for the entire school site, new dormitory and common room/communal facilities have been included the installation of new shower facilities at two school buildings - Gardener House (now called School House) and Frankland House.

Douglas Delabie Tempomix cross wall showers andSporting Shower Panels were selected to meet pupil needs- and those of their parents who have increasingly high expectations of more personal, high quality, safe shower facilities - rather than group showering which was the norm in the past.

Solution

Project architects Thomas Worthington Design (Cheadle/Cheshire) were looking for a combined timeflow and temperature push button control crosswall shower for the Gardener Houserefurbishment.

Their research found that TempoMix time flow basin mixer was the most appropriate on the market and around 50 Tempomix units were fitted.

Tempomix is ideal for individual / group mixing use offering stylish design, options for exposed / recessed installation.

Automatic shut-off after nominal 30 seconds and regulated adjustable flow rate achieve significant water savings. These products are vandal-resistant – specially designed for public buildings, and have a reinforced wall plate. Easy to install and use, smooth operation, durable. Cartridge design reduces scale build-up.

Following the success of the School House specification, six Douglas Delabie Sporting Shower Panels were selected for the Frankland House project.

The unit is a simple low maintenance system. In addition, the short pipe run required for the installation was optimal for the building's needs and to reduce legionella risk.

Douglas Delabie's Sporting Shower Panel isneat and stylish (chrome and brush aluminium finishes), combining performance (delivers pre-set flow rate of eight litres/min) and durability to stand up to heavy changing area usage patterns, plus effective water savings.

Sporting Shower Panel

Easy to install and clean, it is vandal-resistant. Prefabricated, the shower panel is a true second fix item requiring just three wall fixings. Installation and wall sealing requirements are reduced. Providing low maintenance “ the nozzle jet shower head reduces scale build-up and featuring a serviceable cartridge - the unit is used with a TMV to provide a safe water temperature and prevent scalding.

Result

The Douglas Delabie shower fittings have met the school's needs, providing efficient facilities which are easy to use, low maintenance, high quality, well- designed and aesthetically pleasing “ plus they offer significant water savings.

"We specify Douglas Delabie products for their consistentlyhigh standards in design and manufacture," commented architect Sam Moodie, associate at Thomas Worthington Design, "and their Tempomix showers offer the water-saving, tamper-proof-robustness and ease-of-userequired in a school, with the control and style you might find in a modern home."

Project plumbing contractor was James Mercer of Preston, Lancs.
